I’m currently spinning a cotton silk blend on my spinning wheel. It is more difficult to spin than wool. I read that it was like learning how to spin all over again. I don’t think it’s quite that challenging. Once I start to ply I may feel that it is.
Cotton has shorter fibers than most wools. So it needs more twists in a six-inch length of yarn than wool does. In trying to put enough twist in I may have over twisted this yarn. Again once I start to ply it I will know.
I think that I am finding this blend easier to spin than I would find plain cotton. The silk adds a nice sheen and durability. I really like the colors in the roving but I don’t like them as well in the single ply. I am wondering what the two ply will look like!
